How to Choose a Reverse Osmosis Filter

Recently, many friends asked me how to choose best reverse osmosis filter. I think I have to say something. As the most popular water filters, reverse osmosis water filters can provide you with clean and safe water to drink, cook and use. However, not all the RO systems are all high quality. For people who are the first time to choose a filter, it is really a confusing thing to choose the best one, because there are so many Ro systems from different manufacturers and they are different types. For example, you can choose an undersink filter or a countertop filter according to the space under the sink or counter top. Both of them can provide you with sufficient filtration. If the under sink space is too cramped to install an undersink water filter, you can choose a countertop RO system. Or it is highly recommended to install a RO system under the sink.

Before making a decision on buying a reverse osmosis system, there are some important tips you should know. These tips can help you find the best for your need.

What contaminates are in your water?

The first thing we should figure out what contaminants are in our water and how much. If you cannot answer this question, the filter you purchase will not provide you with clean water. Or you may pay much more for useless functions. To solve this problem, you should test your water. A household water purity test can help you to test your water yourself. You can buy one in a local hardware store or on some online retailers. You also can ask your water treatment company for a report or buy a water quality report.

Check customer reviews

If this is your first time to buy one, checking some customer reviews can help you know something about the filter you plan to buy. These reviews will help you the main features of a filter, so you can make a wise decision.

Purchase a more than 4-stage filter

Unless you know your water quality is relatively good, ro systems are better than other types (2-stage, 3-stage). At least, you should choose a 4-stage RO system. Although less 4 stage filters are inexpensive, they cannot remove many contaminants in our water. If you can afford, try a more than 4-stage filter.

Easy to replace filters

Generally, we should replace our filters every 6-12 months. If it is not difficult to replace when we need to, it can save us a lot or you may hire a professional to do the job.

How much filtered water do you need?

The last question is that how much water you need to consume every day. Filtered water is stored in the tank and the tank is limited. If you need a large amount of water in a short time, you should consider this situation. If such a filter cannot suit your needs, you may consider to buy a larger one or choose other types water filtration systems, like a whole house water filter.
